More weekend

That previous entry was early on today, before my brain focused. Don't be fooled, it's not your eyes that don't focus, it's your brain.

So amusing things that happened this weekend.

I went on a peace march as we all know. And I think it was a place where I wasn't expecting too much prejudice. Partly because it was full of damn hippies like me. And partly because it was full of all different kinds of people under a common banner.

In fact, I was walking along, wearing my England rugby shirt, denim jacket and jeans. Behind me was a man and a woman discussing the spirit of revolution in late 18th century Britain and how that related to modern-day socialism. Or some such. Ohhhh, intellectuals I thought. Then somehow, that segued into discussing that there was an England rugby match at Twickenham and you would have thought that they would have arranged it so that the march and the match were on different days. Which led to the woman commenting that perhaps people who liked rugby 'weren't the sort of people to come on a march like this anyway.'

So I turned round so she could have a good look at my rugby shirt. And she blushed and looked embarrased in that attractive middle-class way people do. And I chuckled.

Am I mean? I guess so.

But it's a serious point. There were a bunch of different people there. She must have been able to see that. I thought that was part of the joy of it. On the train going to the march I was sandwiched between a very middle class well spoken group of middle-aged women, and some dreadlocked and pierced people from Brighton.

The other amusing thing was meeting Mr Me's friend. Who is a funny person. And funny people make me happy, if also feel somewhat inadequate.

I knew he was funny when we got on a packed train to Blackfriars and as it moved off someone commented that there were some people from Manchester further down. So fairly loudly he said 'There are Northerners on this train? I thought they had their own trains. Right. That's it. Let me off.' So it's mean and prejudiced against Northerners. And that makes me a hypocrite. But dammit. It was funny.

I also think that 'Victory to the Intifada!' is not a good chant for a peace march.

I also think, don't worry, I'm almost done, that the rude Yogi Bear song is fucking funny.
